Porträt Christian Ernst

«Hospital@Home: Rethinking Care»

Abstract:

How does the idea of "Hospital@Home" become a viable care model? Using the example of "Visit – Spital Zollikerberg Zuhause®," Christian Ernst shares the experiences gathered in implementing hospital-equivalent treatment in the home environment. The focus is on the perspectives of patients, staff, and the organization: What changes in workflows, in interprofessional collaboration, and in the use of digital technologies? The keynote sheds light on opportunities and challenges, and shows why successful digital health solutions do not start with technology, but with concrete care needs and the people who use them. "Visit" enables suitable acutely ill patients to receive treatment at home through an interprofessional team and with telemedicine support.

As smoothly as you look at your financial situation in your digital bank acount, a look into your health data account will show you how to improve your lifestyle and when to seek the advice of an expert health professional. This is the vision of a modern health data space. Built from scratch with the aim to maintain and improve your health! Enable physicians to contribute high quality, structured and standardized clinical data to a shared medical record, the true kernel of a democratic health data space. Where the patient citizen and the expert professional communicate and contribute to a fairly governed knowledge pool. To LEARN: Learn for your own health. «Swiss Health Data Space in the Hospital: Today & Tomorrow?»

Abstract:

The Swiss Health Data Space (SwissHDS) aims to make health data securely, consistently, and cross-institutionally usable. At the University Children's Hospital Zurich, this journey begins in everyday hospital operations: a central data warehouse, a harmonized data catalog, and governance create the foundation for interoperable data products. Applications in intensive care and neonatal medicine are already showing concrete benefits – less effort for data entry and verification, faster coding, better management, and new research opportunities. Connecting to SwissHDS requires high data quality, consistent semantics, API and FHIR interfaces, as well as clear data ownership. Interoperability is therefore not only a matter of technology, but above all a task of leadership and cooperation.

«Swiss KIS: Digital Sovereignty in Healthcare»

Abstract:

Healthcare systems are increasingly constrained by fragmented landscapes, vendor lock-in, and solutions that are built around rather than with clinical practice. In Switzerland, these tensions are particularly visible. Swiss KIS challenges this model by building a fully self-developed, hospital-owned platform—designed from the ground up with and for healthcare professionals. It aims to return control over data, workflows and innovation to those delivering care. By combining shared infrastructure, open standards, and a new legal and organisational framework, Swiss KIS establishes a sovereign alternative to existing systems—aligned with real clinical needs and long-term sustainability.
